Cantharis Alpacas
About
Cantharis Alpacas is one of the longest established alpaca farms in the lower North Island, conveniently located on the majestic Kapiti Coast, just 45 kms North of Wellington.
We breed alpacas for conformation, wool quality and character, and host the very popular guided alpaca walks over our working farm.
Walking with Alpacas
We walk with these adorable creatures in the hills above the majestic Kapiti Coast.
You will be able to lead, hand feed and, assuming they feel like it, hug them while enjoying the walk and the fantastic views over the picturesque Kapiti Coast and beyond.

Latest News!
After 28 wonderful years, the farm has been sold and we will be moving overseas to be closer to our (grand)children.
Walking with Alpacas will pause from 18 January 2026, with the great news that the alpacas will remain on the farm and, once the new owners have settled in, there is potential for the alpaca walks to return.

The alpacas were very cute and the staff/host was very friendly 🥰 Would recommend!Posted on VOYAGER 6915/11/2025 The Alpaccas were well looked after but not very talkative. They all seemed to know the routine and were fairly easy to lead around. There are beautiful views on the walk which the Alpaccas seemed oblivious to. There is a hit Netflix show called "The Alpacca Whisperer" . Applying what I learnt, the Alpaccas expressed their love of their Kiwi home but asked if wifi reception could be i mproved. I passed this on. Overall a wonderful experience.Posted on Jenny Burgess09/11/2025 Fantastic walk with the alpaca's, amongst beautiful scenery. The owner was lovely and provided a great experience for myself and my daughter. I highly recommend this wonderful adventure.Posted on Nate Brabender08/11/2025 The experience was excellent. Rob our guide had such a great sense of humour and instructions were clear. It was safe, fun and a BEAUTIFUL walk with stunning views. Walking an Alpaca was not on the bingo card but so glad i got to check that off Highly recommend this experience.
