Walking with Alpacas
Cantharis Alpacas is based in the hills above the Kapiti Coast, conveniently located just 45 kms North of Wellington and just North of the new motorway.
We offer private farm walks for you and the alpacas to be entertained.
Tour group sizes are limited to a target maximum of 14 guests giving you plenty of time to get to know our alpacas.
Once everyone has arrived, we will provide a short briefing, and walk with you and with the very cute alpacas on a lead over our hilly farm.
While the walk on the gently sloping track adds to the great experience, we require you to prepare yourself with good walking shoes or gumboots, and that you familiarize yourself with and accept the Terms and Conditions before visiting our working alpaca farm.
At the top of the property you can meet, get close, enjoy a cuddle and hand feed the other alpacas.
On the way up and at the top you can also catch the stunning views of the Kapiti Coast, Kapiti Island, the South Island (on clear days) and beyond. Ensure you have your camera ready to take photos and “selfies” of you and the alpacas.
During this unique experience you will learn about these beautiful creatures, and you will have ample time to ask questions.
As our farm is currently on the market, we can’t guarantee future availability for alpaca walks. For this reason, we’re not offering vouchers until things are confirmed. We really appreciate your understanding.
The track is not suitable for buggies, dogs and drones are not allowed.
The tours start at the booked time and are each approximately 1.5 hours in duration. You can book yourself in for a scheduled tour on this page.
Note that in case of bad weather we reserve the right to cancel the booked tour. We will contact you and provide a full refund for already paid orders, or re-schedule the booking to another, for you, suitable date.
The booking calendar shows our regular walks. We do however add additional walks from time to time to the schedule.

The alpacas were very cute and the staff/host was very friendly 🥰 Would recommend!Posted on VOYAGER 6915/11/2025 The Alpaccas were well looked after but not very talkative. They all seemed to know the routine and were fairly easy to lead around. There are beautiful views on the walk which the Alpaccas seemed oblivious to. There is a hit Netflix show called "The Alpacca Whisperer" . Applying what I learnt, the Alpaccas expressed their love of their Kiwi home but asked if wifi reception could be i mproved. I passed this on. Overall a wonderful experience.Posted on Jenny Burgess09/11/2025 Fantastic walk with the alpaca's, amongst beautiful scenery.
