Walking with Alpacas
Cantharis Alpacas is based in the hills above the Kapiti Coast, conveniently located just 45 kms North of Wellington and just North of the new motorway.
We offer private farm walks for you and the alpacas to be entertained.
Tour group sizes are limited to a target maximum of 14 guests giving you plenty of time to get to know our alpacas.
Once everyone has arrived, we will provide a short briefing, and walk with you and with the very cute alpacas on a lead over our hilly farm.
While the walk on the gently sloping track adds to the great experience, we require you to prepare yourself with good walking shoes or gumboots, and that you familiarize yourself with and accept the Terms and Conditions before visiting our working alpaca farm.
At the top of the property you can meet, get close, enjoy a cuddle and hand feed the other alpacas.
On the way up and at the top you can also catch the stunning views of the Kapiti Coast, Kapiti Island, the South Island (on clear days) and beyond. Ensure you have your camera ready to take photos and “selfies” of you and the alpacas.
During this unique experience you will learn about these beautiful creatures, and you will have ample time to ask questions.
Vouchers to surprise your special one(s) with an alpaca walk can be purchased here:
The track is not suitable for buggies, dogs and drones are not allowed.
The tours start at the booked time and are each approximately 1.5 hours in duration. You can book yourself in for a scheduled tour on this page.
Note that in case of bad weather we reserve the right to cancel the booked tour. We will contact you and provide a full refund for already paid orders, or re-schedule the booking to another, for you, suitable date.
The booking calendar shows our regular walks. We do however add additional walks from time to time to the schedule.

EXCELLENTBased on 189 reviewsYazlinda Binti Yaacob19/10/2024We had an excellent time today noon with Rob n the Alpacas esp. with Mr.Fluffyminoli fernando17/10/2024Sammy21/09/2024We had a wonderful time with Rob and all the fluffy, friendly Alpacas (Peter Pan and Bruno were very cute). We were already scheduled for a rainy day but Rob was very flexible and we were able to change our dates for a sunny one! The farm is beautiful, overlooking Kapiti island. Highly recommend!!Jonathan Bhana-Thomson17/07/2024A great experience on a sunny Sunday morning with these appealing and gentle animals. Rob gave a good intro to the animals and a relaxing feel to the whole experience. The walk itself took a bit over an hour, over a track that was a little stony and up and down but overall an easy walk as the alpacas like to stop for a bite of grass to eat along the way. Certainly recommend this if you enjoy animals, as you get up close with the alpacas.Dyah Perwitasari13/07/2024It was so much fun activities with a great view, the owner is so kind.
